WILLIAM R. WINN William R. “Bill” Winn, 79, of Quincy, passed away at 1:42 a.m. Thursday (January 10, 2019) in Good Samaritan Home. Born September 25, 1939 in Hannibal, Missouri, Bill was the son of Ira Eugene and Lennabelle James Winn. He married Joyce M. Spilker on February 12, 1970 at Salem Church in Quincy.

She survives. A longtime member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where he served on the Board of Christian Education, Re Ministry, VMST, Undersheperds, was co-chair of the Search Committee and sang with the Salem Choristers. Bill was also a member of the Adams County Retired Teachers and served on the Board and was a Past President of the Good Samaritan Home Board of Directors.

Bill had a passion for music and drama, singing for countless weddings and funerals and performing in numerous musicals for The Quincy Community Theater, being awarded 5 Quilta Awards. He was a tour guide for 13 years at Mark Twain Cave and Cameron Cave in Hannibal. An avid baseball fan, Bill enjoyed rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Quincy Gems.

Bill was a graduate of Hannibal High School and earned his Bachelors and Masters Degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. He began his teaching career at Payson Seymour High School until moving to Quincy Senior High School where he taught for over 30 years until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a son, William J. B. Winn (Kae Blecha) of Quincy; a granddaughter, Janice I. Winn of Quincy; two great granddaughters, Isabella Winn and Makenzi Winn; a brother, John R. Winn (Kristin) of Grand Junction, CO; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved Chihuahua, “Amigo”.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Eugene Winn; and a sister, Lennabelle Ann Winn. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ with Pastor Matt Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Monday morning from 10:30 until the time of services at Salem Church. Memorials may be made to the Salem Church Education Fund, Good Samaritan Home Employee Fund or Unity Point Hospice.
