William’s Obituary AIKEN, SC – WILLIAM THOMAS “BILL” BROWN III, 91, beloved husband of Virginia Beck “Ginny” Brown, died Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A native of Shavertown, PA, Bill was a son of the late William Thomas Brown II and Edith Snyder Brown. While earning his BA from Kutztown College he met Ginny who became his wife of 69 years.

He went on to earn his Masters and Doctorate from Penn State University. Dr. Brown was a professor of art and design, teaching at Penn State, Edinboro State College and Oswego State University. He taught at Northern Illinois University for 30 years and began their Interior Design Program before his retirement in 1987.

He found joy in mentoring students and had a great appreciation for excellence. Bill and Ginny moved to Aiken in 1987 to enjoy golf and the warm weather. They became members of Houndslake Country Club and St. John’s United Methodist Church.

He had a great passion for painting and sculpting and has exhibited his work at the MACK in McCormick and the Aiken Center for the Arts. He designed three homes, including his current home in Houndslake. Bill also enjoyed landscaping, traveling, and furniture making.

Survivors, in addition to Ginny, include his daughter, Lois Foster (Anthony), Hudson, MI; three grandchildren, Rebecca Zellar (Chris Riter), Andrew Foster (Nicole), Alexandra Foster; three great-grandchildren, Clara Riter, Avery and Emmett Foster. A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be Saturday afternoon, March 9th at 4:30 PM at Houndslake Country Club. SHELLHOUSE – RIVERS FUNERAL HOME, 715 EAST PINE LOG RD.
