Willie Clyde’s Obituary Willie Clyde Cloud, age 95 of Sebring, FL passed away Friday, March 22, 2019. She was born April 13, 1923 in Taylor County, FL to Thomas Alfred and Laura Alice (Courtney) Toole. She and her family moved to Hardee County, FL in 1929 and moved to Jackson County, FL when she was 14 years old.

This is where she met and married Hugh Darrell Cloud, her husband of 62 years. Hugh and Willie moved back to Hardee County, FL where they lived until WW II, at which time they relocated to Highlands County, FL. Willie Clyde’s first public job was clerking in the local A & P and then working in the Sebring School cafeteria.

When she was in her 40’s, she began attending Adult Education classes through SFJC graduating High School the same year as her son Darrell graduated Junior College. After working a couple years for Wells Motor Company, she began a career with “The Avon Park Sun,” a subsidiary of the New York Times. Willie Clyde worked there until she contracted encephalitis in 1977.

She has been a member of First Baptist Church of Avon Park for 50 plus years where she was the Director of the 5-year-old department for 20 years. She also substituted in the Adult department for several years. Willie Clyde is survived by her Son – Darrell E. Cloud (Lynn) of Sebring, FL; Grandson – Christopher D. Cloud (Mia) of Largo, FL; Great Grandchildren – Ava, Arianna, Caleb; and a Sister – Mary Alice Durrance of Avon Park, FL.

She is preceded in death by her Parents; Husband – Hugh Darrell Cloud; and Granddaughter – Jennifer Jo Cloud. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Avon Park with interment following in Hart Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home of Avon Park.
