Willie Edna Owen Hosley died April 28, 2019. She was born in Boydton, Virginia, Mecklenburg County, on December 1, 1929, a daughter of the late James Thomas (Tom) Owen and Maude Harrison (Polly) Cooper Owen. She was educated in Mecklenburg County, and later moved to Danville, VA.
She was married to Clarence O’dell Hosley, Jr., in 1955 and they resided at 228 Park Circle Danville, VA, until his death in 1999. Willie began her career with Schoolfield Bank & Trust in 1955 and she remained with the bank through a number of mergers finally retiring from BB&T in 2003 after 48 years of employment. After retirement, she spent time traveling with her family and caring for her older sister, Bessie in Windsor Heights, where she lived until 2014.
While in Danville Willie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. After the passing of her sister, Bessie, she moved to Mebane, NC with her son and his family. In addition to her parents and husband; Willie was predeceased by a step-daughter Sylvia Ann Hosley Mimms; four sisters, Bessie O. Dunn, Alice O. Anderson, Mary O. Hill and Nellie O. Reed; and three brothers, Andrew Thomas Owen, James Edward Owen, and John Robert Owen.
She is survived by her son Clarence (Dale) Hosley, III, his wife Sommer; along with her grandson Drew, his wife Billie Jo and their four children Delilah, Liam, Corbett and Abram. Also surviving are Sylvia’s children Jeanette (Shane) Hairston, Eddie (Cindy) Mimms, Ronnie (Pamela) Mimms, Victor (Tammie) Mimms, and Keith (Nancy) Mimms, as well as all their children and grandchildren. She has a number of nieces and nephews throughout the U.S..
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Saturday, May 04, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow the receiving at the funeral home with Pastor James Garner officiating. A private interment will be following the funeral service in Danville VA. In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug your parents, children, family, friends and spend time making memories for a moment, an hour or a day.
