It is with most sincere sympathy that we formally announce the passing of, Deacon Willie James Hunter of Whigham, Georgia. Deacon Hunter passed on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Willie James Hunter son of the late Peter R. and Eather C. Hunter was born in Grady County, Georgia on February 04, 1932.

He transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at his home in Whigham, Georgia. Mr. Hunter attended the public schools of Grady County. He was also an active supporter of the Cooperative Extension Service, New Farmers, and Future Farmers of America Adult Farmer Programs.

He committed himself to continuous improvement by completing course requirements for Arc Welding, Agriculture Chemical Application, Farm Structures, and Small Engine Repair. At an early age Mr. Hunter confessed Christ and joined Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend Cooper in Whigham, Georgia. Later he moved his membership to Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully served in many capacities until his health failed.

Mr. Hunter was ordained as a Deacon on March 26, 1961. Deacon Hunter served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He served on the Board of Directors of the Mt.

Tabor Building Association, served as Superintendent of Sunday School, and Cul Reporter of the Mt. Tabor Building Association Sunday School. He also served in the capacity of Secretary at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

Additional community involvement included Secretary of St. Thomas Masonic Lodge #37 and Secretary of Allen Chapel Pallbearer. Mr. Willie James Hunter married Miss Mary Lee Scurry on December 15, 1950. To this union seven (7) children were born, of which one preceded him in death, Mr. Bonnie L Hunter.

Deacon Hunter leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 67 years Mrs. Mary Lee Hunter, two (2) sons Mr. Lonnie J. Hunter (Barbara); Albany, Georgia, Mr. Curtis D. Hunter (Stephanie), Suwanee, Georgia; four (4) daughters Mrs. Retha M. Byrd (Ret. SSG Leon), North Port, Florida, Mrs. Verna A. Williams (Larry), Cairo, Georgia, Dr. Mirrial J. Moses (Timothy), Hephzibah, Georgia, Janet D. Stevens (Ret. COL.

Wayne), Columbus, Georgia ten (10) Grand Children and twelve (12) Great Grand Children; Three (3) brothers, Mr. Calvin C. Hunter (Mary Alice), Whigham, Georgia, Dr. Curtis T.L. Hunter (Georgia), Ellerslie, Georgia, Dr. Lorenzo Hunter Wilmington, Ohio; three (3) sisters, Mrs. Narrest Gadson Tallahassee, Florida, Ms. Jahazel Shepherd Albany, Georgia, Mrs. Rose E. McRae (Dr. Sylvester) Columbus, Georgia also sister-in-laws Mrs. Willa D. Hunter Whigham, Georgia, Mrs. Emma J. Hunter Albany, Georgia, and Mrs. Minnie Pearl Davis St. Augustine, Florida and brother-in-law Issac Scurry, Jr. (Ann) and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends also mourn the home going of Deacon Hunter.
