Zelda Christine Keyes Scott, 90, of Southaven, Mississippi, entered into her heavenly home on February 14, 2019. God saw her getting tired, a cure not meant to be, so He put his arms around her, and whispered “come with me”. Born on September 10, 1928 in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, she worked as a bank teller at First National Bank in Jackson, Mississippi before moving to Memphis, Tennessee in 1958.

She married Lauren Evanda Scott in 1960. She worked for First Tennessee Bank for 40 years. She started as a teller and later moved to trust accounting and corporate accounting before retiring the first time.

She returned a few years later and worked several years as a teller at the Southaven bank. Zelda was a strong willed and determined individual, overcoming cancer twice. She faced many challenges, always with a smile on her face.

She was a planner; she made the plans and enlisted others to help execute them. She had a warm heart, always willing to help others. She loved people and they felt her love.

In retirement, she was a caregiver. Always unselfishly doing for others. Though she never had children of her own, she was a mom, grandmother, and mentor to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lauren; parents J.I. & Katherine Keyes; brothers, Boyd and David Keyes; and several furry companions. She is survived by her sister, Juanita Gill of Bowling Green, Kentucky and her beloved feline companion, Billy Baby. She is also survived by two “adopted” children; individuals she claimed as her own, Hemangini (Hema) Parekh of Charlotte, North Carolina and Marc Sones of Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Hema remained in continual contact from afar and visited frequently. Marc assisted her with any and everything over the last 38 years and did whatever she told him to do. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Hopewell Cemetery, Arkabutla, Mississippi.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
