OBITUARY Abel C. Gutierrez Sr. March 23, 1932 – December 2, 2018 Abel Cavazos Gutierrez, Sr., passed away on December 2, 2018 at the age of 86. He was born on March 23, 1932 in Odem, TX. He was a Korean War Veteran and Rifle Marksman, proudly serving in the US Army from 1952-1954.

After being wounded while in the Korean War he continued his service by joining the Army Reserves for 15 years. Abel retired from Ashland Oil Company in 1997 after many years of service and was a dedicated parishioner at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where he volunteered many hours. He will be remembered as a hardworking, loving man with a contagious laugh and will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Eliseo Gutierrez and mother, Angelita Cavazos; brothers, Augustine Gutierrez, Audon Gutierrez and Eliseo Gutierrez; sisters, Maria Vargas, Angelita Mancias and Adela Sembrano. Abel is survived by his loving wife, Cecilia Cuellar Gutierrez; sons, Abel Gutierrez Jr. and Rudy Gutierrez; daughters, Sylvia Lynn Rangel and Annabel Gutierrez Martinez; grandchildren, Marcus Gutierrez, Jason Christopher Rangel, Monica Gutierrez, Rudy Martin Gutierrez, Jana Christine Salinas, Ruby Marie Gonzales; 16 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 12:00 pm with interment to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. To offer condolences please visit www.
