Aftanas October 20, 1916 – February 10, 2019 Share this obituary Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Agnes Elizabeth Aftanas, formerly of Arnold, went peacefully with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, at the glorious age of 102 years. Born Oct.

20, 1916, in Creighton, she moved to Arnold when married in 1940. She was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, in New Kensington, and the Christian Mothers of the Church. She was also a member of the New Kensington Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.

Agnes owned and operated Agnes’s Beauty Shop in Arnold for more than 40 years. She enjoyed music, singing and dancing, dining out and most of all traveling. Survivors include her son, Dennis (Janet) Aftanas, of Natrona Heights; grandson, Matthew A. Aftanas; two great-granddaughters, Amanda J. Ewing, of Sarver, and Crystal M. Ewing, of Evans City; stepson, Scott E. Ewing; stepdaughter, Jennifer S. Karpinski, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Albina Plitz Janosky; her husband, Walter Aftanas; and her sisters, Wanda Guenther, Mildred Schreckengost, Mary DeBlasio, Frances Zemanski, Helen Nesbitt and Gene Thomas. The family would like to thank Concordia Lutheran Ministries of Cabot; Oertel Assisted Living and Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia for the wonderful care Agnes received and memorial donations may be directed to them or St. Mary Church. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St., Lower Burrell, where prayers of transfer will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by Christian funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington.

Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Arnold. Christian Mothers will conduct services at 3 p.m. Thursday. www.
