Aileen Dunevant Smith, 70, of Morehead City, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at her home. A memorial service will be held in Winston Salem at a later date. Aileen was born on October 6, 1948, in Reidsville, the youngest child of James Albert and Maggie Bowes Dunevant.

Before moving to Morehead City two years ago, she lived in Lexington, NC for about 40 years. She was a nurse and a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and retired as a Nurse Practitioner. Most of her life was dedicated to nursing.

She was a long time member of the Friedberg Moravian Church in Winston Salem, but had recently been a member of First United Methodist Church of Morehead City. Aileen was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and will be tremendously missed. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend of 46 years, George Vernon Smith; two sons, Jason Smith and Justin Smith, and wife, Paige Strickland-Smith, of Morehead City; brother, Bobby Dunevant of Reidsville; sister, Etta Cobb of Mcleansville; and grandchildren, Mason Smith and Abigal Smith, of Winston Salem, Nathan Smith and Hayley Smith of Fairmont, and Chatham Smith, of Morehead City.

In addition to her parents, Aileen is preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Dunevant and James Dunevant.
