Obituary for Al Lehrter Al Lehrter, 92, of Carroll, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 in Carroll, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018 at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr.
Brian Feller. Music will be by Marcy Anderson, and the St. Lawrence Choir. Mass Servers will be Kyler Schumacher, and Brady Schumacher.
Lectors will be Allison Schumacher and Luke Schumacher. Gift Bearers will be Dale Lehrter, Barbara Schumacher, and Sonya Schumacher. Eucharistic Ministers will be Elaine Fleskes, Luke Schumacher, and Sonya Schumacher.
Casket Bearers will be Bob Fleskes, Jerry Schumacher, Steve Kramer, Larry Owens, Brian Tigges, and Jim Daisy. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Arcadia American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a Rosary prayed at 3 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 5 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. Lawrence Church from 9-9:45 a.m. on Thursday. Al was born in Arcadia, Iowa to Henry and Clara (Schulte) Lehrter on August 4, 1925. He married Lynette Broich on August 21, 1954. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946.
He served in World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, was injured twice and was awarded two Purple Heart medals. He was active with the honor guard for the Arcadia American Legion Post 694. He worked for Carroll County for 40 years.
Al loved to bowl, golf, fish, camp, play cards and to dance at the Arcadia Legion. Al is survived by his wife Lynette, daughter Barb and husband Jerry Schumacher, son Dale, grandson Luke and wife Sonya and two great grandsons Kyler and Brady Schumacher, granddaughter Allison Schumacher, siblings Frances Owen, Mary Lehrter, Dorothy Kramer, Joann Petersen, Stella Mohr, Shirley Miller, and Clara Lehrter, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Clara Lehrter, sisters Leona Daisy and Lucille Butler and brother Henry Lehrter.
