Albert “Bert” Damon Jr. died peacefully on July 24th at Country Manor in Newburyport. At the time of his death, he was lovingly surrounded by his wife Sylvia, his three children, and his grandchildren. Bert was born on April 19th, 1939 in New York City to the late Albert and Roberta Damon.

He grew up in Andover, Massachusetts and was the oldest of three children, predeceased by his brother Kent Damon and survived by brother Glenn Damon and his wife Diane of Andover. At Andover High School, Bert blazed a trail of athletic achievement for his brothers to follow. He was a four-sport letterman who excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track.

In recognition of his achievements, Bert was inducted into the Andover High School Hall of Fame. After high school Bert served in the US Army Reserves and then graduated from Plymouth State College. He then began a lifelong career in sales in the steel industry.

His career started in Pittsburg, led him to Philadelphia, and eventually brought him back to Massachusetts. Although Bert was an Andover guy, he settled with his family in Newburyport in 1971. He loved Newburyport and made it his forever home.

He was an accomplished salesman and retired from Rex-Cut Abrasives of Fall River in 2011. While Bert loved Newburyport, his true joy was the love he had for his three children Beau, Nonie, and Karen. He attended every game, concert, and event they participated in.

He was their biggest fan, and they were his greatest rdzt/ of pride. He was blessed later in life to meet and fall in love with the love of his life, Sylvia (Smith) Damon, who he married in 2002. They spent countless hours enjoying each other’s company throughout Newburyport, be it at the public library, walking on the boardwalk, or walking and enjoying the shade at the Bartlett Mall.

In addition to his beloved wife Sylvia, he is survived by his son Beau Damon and his wife Suzanne of Woodinville, WA, his daughter Nonie Olson and her husband Paul of Newburyport, and his daughter Karen Damon and her husband David Hamel of Newburyport. He is also survived by his four stepsons Michael and Sue Doucette of Stratham, NH, Joe and Shauna Smith of Dover, NH, Teddy and Jody Doucette of Milton, NH, and David and Jane Doucette of Marietta, GA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Erin, Olivia, Brynn, Julia, TJ, Zachary, and ten step-grandchildren and his aforementioned brother Glenn and his wife Dianne, and also the mother of his children, Arleen Damon, as well as many nieces and nephews.

His family wants to thank all of the staff at County Manor who provided him care in the last months of his life. Bert was a world-class storyteller, fisherman, and mentor to many people in Newburyport. He will be missed by many and remembered fondly by all who knew him.
