Alex N. Gillis, 86, of Brockton since 1956, passed away on July 16, 2018. He was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia, Canada to Daniel and Catherine Gillis on August 16, 1931. Alex was co-owner and operator of J&A Texaco for many years, and later worked at Cedar Hill Golf Course in Stoughton until 2011, where he also loved to golf.

Alex was the beloved husband of Linda (Spencer) Gillis for 65 years; loving father of Cathy Powers and her husband Michael of Stuart, FL, Donna Wolffe and her husband William of Bridgewater, David Gillis of Orlando, FL, Michael Gillis of Bridgewater, and the late Annmarie Gillis; dear grandfather of Michael and Andrew Gillis of Bridgewater; brother of Robert Gillis and his wife Jeanette, and Katie Jane Elliot, all of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the late John, Charles and Mary Gillis; and an uncle of many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a caring and gentle man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. All are welcome to calling hours Friday 4-7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, funeral service Saturday at 10 a.m. in Waitt Funeral Home and burial at Melrose Cemetery.
