OBITUARY Alexander D. Laing May 8, 1928 – October 29, 2018 Alexander Duncan Laing, 90, of Fort Worth, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2018. He will always be remembered as a happy and good man to all that knew and loved him. He was a loving father, grandfather, friend and devoted husband to his late wives (Joan Laing 1954-1992 and Marie Lowrance 1998-2017).
He was born on May 8, 1928 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Alexander and Margaret Laing and was one of twelve siblings. He proudly served in the British Army from 1945-1947. He loved ballroom dancing, playing snooker and pool, and enjoying time outside at home and at his cabin in Ruidoso.
Being from Scotland, he loved his fish and chips (fries) and stressed that he wanted his chips to be very, very hot. He was fond of traveling and moved to Canada in 1952 where he met Joan Dawson Laing ballroom dancing and married in 1954. After the birth of their first son, Malcolm, they moved to California where Brenda, Janet and Graham were born.
The family moved to New Zealand in 1965 and visited the Fiji islands, Hawaii and Australia. Upon returning to California in 1966, Duncan worked for Tracor Westronics as a Facility Manager and was transferred to Texas in 1970. He continued with Tracor as it became TTI and continued there until his retirement in 1990 so he could care for his wife Joan who had ALS.
He returned to TTI as a consultant in 1993 and remained there until his retirement a few year later. He remarried in 1998 to Marie Lowrance whom he also met ballroom dancing. They enjoyed retirement traveling around the world to England, Scotland, France, Italy, Germany, Panama Canal and many other locations.
Duncan was preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters, six brothers, and two wives. Duncan is survived by his children, Malcolm and wife Vicki Laing of Lubbock, Brenda Laing of Azle, Janet and husband Greg Bastian of Aledo, Graham and wife Kim Laing of Granbury, and stepchildren Dan Lowrance of Fort Worth, and Teresa and husband Randy Brillhart of Fort Worth and Perryton, as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville.
The Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) or ADA (American Diabetes Association).
