OBITUARY Alfonse “Alfonsas Alciauskas” Alkas April 22, 1929 – November 24, 2018 Alfonsas Alkas Alciauskas passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018. He was 89. Born April 22, 1929, in Telsiai Lithuania, he was the son of the late Feliksas Alcauskas and Kazimiera Kirsaite Alcauskas.

Alfonsas is survived by his wife, Ona Alkas Alciauskas of Tampa, FL; a daughter, Kristina Andresen, her husband Damon and grandchildren, Evan and Sydney of Tampa, FL; a son, Romanas Alciauskas, his wife Brenna and grandchild, Sebastian of Philadelphia, PA. Alfonsas lived a long and storied life. At age 15, during WWII Russia occupied Lithuania.

As Germany was pushing Russia back east through Lithuania, Alfonsas was taken by Germany to work for German forces doing hard labor. When Russia came back to occupy Lithuania in 1944, Alfonsas was unable to return to his family. After the war ended, he lived in a refugee camp at Hanau, Germany, where there was poor living and little food available.

He later joined the American “Support Army” group, and his life improved and he began singing in their choir (he loved to sing). In 1949 he emigrated to Australia and lived there 17 years. From there, he took an opportunity to emigrate to the United States in 1966.

He lived in Marquette Park, Chicago, an area heavily populated with Lithuanians, where he enjoyed many social activities, including the Lithuanian Choir, where he met his wife Ona on Oct 20, 1968. They were married in 1970, and had two children, Kristina and Romanas. His career as a draftsman brought him and his young family to Florida in 1972, where they lived into retirement.

He will be missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Visitation hours are planned for Friday November 30, 2018 from 12 to 1 pm at Beach Memorial Chapel 301 Corey Avenue St Pete Beach, FL (727) 360-5577. A service will take place at 1 pm at the funeral home followed by a graveside entombment service at Memorial Park Cemetery St Petersburg, FL.
