Alfred “Al” Rohlfing 1917 – 2018 Alfred “Al” Frederick Gustav Rohlfing, 101, of New Franklin, MO passed away June 7, 2018 at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville. Al was born in rural Howard County, MO on April 11, 1917 a son of Gustav Frederick and Elda Louise Uthlaut Rohlfing. He married Kathaleen “Kate” Dickey on April 9, 1939 at the Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church Parsonage in New Franklin.

Kate preceded him in death January 8, 2007 after 67 loving years of marriage. They lived a long happy life together living in California, Kansas and Missouri and enjoyed the adventures of family vacations and traveling. Al was an accomplished equipment mechanic and could fix anything.

He worked a variety of jobs and was always determined to provide for his family. Among his many jobs, he was employed with Pratt & Whitney and Lake City Ammunition supporting the war effort and later as a farm implement and heavy equipment mechanic. He retired from the University of Missouri in 1979 as a heavy equipment mechanic.

He was gifted with being able to share a good story and brightened the days of many with his fun loving spirit and sense of humor. He was a longtime member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in New Franklin. Al is lovingly remembered his daughter, Nancy Potter and son-in-law, Sam of Weatherby Lake, MO; a sister, Irene Biesemeyer of New Franklin; two grandchildren, Jennifer Teget and husband, Paul of Hayes, KS and Matthew Potter of the Kansas City area; two great-grandchildren, Connor Andrew Teget of Hayes, KS and Logan Windsor Potter of the Kansas City area and two God sons, Dick Rohlfing of Boonville and Alan Rohlfing of Lake Saint Louis.

Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and friends who loved Al. In addition to his wife, Kate and his parents, Al was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Rohlfing; a sister, Esther Biesemeyer; two brothers-in-law, Herbert Biesemeyer and Randy Biesemeyer; a sister-in-law, Barbara Rohlfing and a nephew, Robert Biesemeyer. He was also preceded in death by a special friend, Delores “Sis” Dodson.

Services celebrating and honoring Al’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 11, 2018 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in New Franklin with Rev. Tim Fairley and Rev. Jeff Glandon officiating.

Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Immanuel United Church of Christ in New Franklin. Mr. Rohlfing’s family would like to express their appreciation to his friends and neighbors who looked after him helping him stay in his home until after his 100th birthday and for the care he received at Cooper County Memorial Hospital during the last months of his life.
