Alfred (Al) Farrell, 81 years of age who lived in Powell, OH was called home to Heaven to join our Father. Al loved his country and served proudly with honor in the United States Army Reserve, United States Army, and New York Army National Guard. He also loved his work on the F-14 Tomcat for nearly 19 years and was a docent at the Columbus Zoo for 10 years.

Al is survived by Janice M., his wife of 57 years. Together, they had four wonderful children: Alfred R., Joyce M. Catalano, Donna M. Castiglione and husband Jim, and Patricia A. Rindos who recently preceded him in passing. Al adored his seven loving grandchildren: Taylor A. Rindos, Maggie M. Rindos, Robert A Rindos III, Peter B. Catalano, Daniel A. Catalano, Diana M. Castiglione and Julia G. Castiglione.

He was so proud of them and was a terrific mentor. He graduated Port Jefferson High School, Port Jefferson, NY in 1956 and attended Suffolk Community College afterward. Al resided in Powell and attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church for 21 years.

Al always had a saying about life: ”God first, family second and work last”. That is how he lived his life. He believed that if you have those three, you have it made.

Al was a devoted and loving husband; willing to help anyone who needed his assistance. He was a terrific and loving dad who always had his childrens’ interest at heart. He wanted them to be strong and respectful of others at home and outside in the world.

He was a handyman and craftsman who loved to carve and make toys for children. He took wonder in seeing how their eyes would light up. Al also loved family gatherings.

Calling hours are Wednesday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Rutherford Funeral Home, Powell, OH. The funeral mass will be said at St. John of Arc Church at 10:30 Thursday morning. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Alfred Farrell please visit our Sympathy Store.
