Alfred’s Obituary Alfred R. ‘Al’ Hlad, 77, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday March 2, 2019 at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 7, 1941 in Cassville, son of the late Fred and Nellie Wallace Hlad. Alfred attended West Virginia University and earned a master’s degree.

After graduation, he was employed at Monongalia County Schools as a music teacher and band director at various schools throughout the county, but mostly at South Junior High School. Alfred was a generous and caring educator. He taught for over 30 years.

He was greatly respected by his peers. Alfred was a devoted family man to his siblings and nephews. He has given above and beyond to everyone.

He has always put others before his own needs. He will be greatly missed by all. Alfred is survived by his siblings Fred Hlad, Jr. of Wheeling, Shirley Ann Hlad of Cassville, Dorothy Ferrise of Morgantown, and Mary Sue Hlad of Cassville; great aunts Rose Hlad and Ann Chico; and cousin, Louis Hlad, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Pauline Murphy and Nellie Jean Miller. Honoring Alfred’s wishes, all services are private. The family would like to thank Carrie Buzzo and all of the staff at WV Caring for all of the care and support given to Alfred.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfred’s memory to the American Cancer Society 122 South High St. Morgantown, WV 26501.
