Alice Faye Reese Sewell October 14, 1930 – September 2, 2018 Alice Faye Reese Sewell of Kyle, Texas, 87 years old, left this earth on Sunday, September 2, 2018 for a new life and a new body in heaven with her friends, loved ones, and family who have gone before. These include her parents, Myrtle Cora Henderson and Robert Lee Reese, Sr. Her twin brother, Dallas Ray, his wife Ila Sue, her older brother, R.L. (Dugan) and his wife, Sue and her nephew, Richard Reese. She is survived by four sons, Joe Sewell, Dale Sewell and Gary Sewell (Carla) of Austin, Texas and Rodney Sewell of Jefferson City, MO.

Two sisters, Lucy May Reese of Atlantic Beach, Fl. and Elizabeth Anne Wilson of Clemson, SC. One brother Furman Dexter Reese (Barbara) of Oakway, SC.

She and her twin brother Dallas Ray, ware born on “Bug Hill” in Highlands on October 14, 1930 with the help of Mrs. Paul Henry, Midwife. The picture of all the many twins who were born in Highlands can be seen at the Historical Society. The Reese family has several sets of twins, including Faye’s nephew, David Reese (Cashiers) and niece Donna Hoffman (Snowmass, CO).

Her other nieces and nephews include: Dallas Reese, Jr (FL) Kathy Brewer (NC) Darrell Reese (NC) Debbie Sapp (FL) Becky Reese (TN) Alan Wilson (SC) Jeffrey Wilson (SC) Karen Reese (Highlands) and Kevin Reese (Highlands). As a teenager working for Bill Holt at Bill’s Soda Shop, Faye witnessed much of that period of Highlands history. She later traveled the world with husband Jerry Sewell who was in the U.S. Air Force.

She retired from the Air Force Base Exchange, Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. After retirement, she worked for Sears. The family would like to thank all of her many longtime friends in Texas who gave her so much love and comfort in the last months of her life.

All of them and anyone who ever met Faye, knew she was truly a hardworking, happy, loving, caring, and giving person. Faye loved and was interested in many things, including: The Blue Ridge Mountains of home, traveling, Texas Bluebonnets, collecting, and especially sea turtles. She was lucky enough to be able to visit the Sea Turtle Farm in the Cayman Islands.

Her family nicknamed her, “The Turtle Woman” which was a perfect nickname for her because the turtle is a symbol of steadfastness and endurance. She was a wonderful dancer and once won a dance contest dancing 52 hours with only short breaks every so often. Her skill at embroidery (taught by her Mother) was truly amazing.

She made and gave as gifts many, many beautiful pillowcases, scarves and tablecloths. Memorials can be sent to: Christopher House, Hospice. 2820 E. Martin Luther King Blvd.
