Alice Johnson Webber Long was born November 5, 1938 at Burnham Hospital in Champaign, IL to Earl and Mary Jeannette Philips Johnson and was raised in Urbana, IL. She died peacefully November 17, 2018 at Meadowbrook, Urbana, IL. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Long, children Krista Borbely (Tim) of Urbana, Brian Webber of Peoria and Karen Webber (Rick Whitesell) of Vancouver, Washington, six grandchildren, sister-in-law Marilyn Webber Thies (Dick) and brother-in-law Carl Webber (Betty), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, and her first husband Craig R. Webber. Alice attended Urbana schools and enjoyed being part of a lively group of UHS friends who all graduated with the Class of ’56. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Political Science.

She and her first husband lived briefly in Texas, California and Georgia as part of his Navy training, ultimately settling back in Urbana, where they would remain. Alice loved her involvement with organizations that allowed her to intersect her friendships, spirituality, support of women, and community improvement. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, becoming an Elder, Deacon, Stephen Minister and teacher.

She was a 50+ year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League. She was active in her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta.

She enjoyed serving the Children’s Home and Aide Society, participating in a Bible Study group, the Hobby Club, and many other groups and causes that offered support and res to women and children, particularly. Her involvement in these organizations resulted in a network of friends that is deep and wide. She will be missed by many.

Alice loved to travel, she had an eye for creating beautiful living spaces, and enjoyed sewing and creating her own clothes. She loved to bake and experiment in the kitchen, becoming well known for her chocolate chip cookies. Alice’s family wishes to thank the people that helped to support Alice with loving kindness over the last few months.

Despite Alice’s inability to communicate in a traditional way, she was able to let everyone who she interacted with know that she was grateful for their support. Alice’s Visitation will be at Renner Wikoff Chapel, 1900 Philo Rd, Urbana IL 61802, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Alice’s Celebration of Life Services will be at First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, 602 W Green St, Urbana IL 61801, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11:00 am.
