Alice Ouellette, 72, of Fall River, MA, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Alice was the third of fifteen children born to Dorothy (Desroisers) and Alfred Ouellette. She was also the sister and matriarch to her siblings Dorothy Ouellette, Alfred Ouellette, Raymond Ouellette, Betty Ouellette, Norman Ouellette, Joseph Ouellette and Louise Ouellette Emiabata.

She was predeceased by James Ouellette, Nancy Ouellette, John Ouellette, April Marie Ouellette Lepage, Ann Marie Ouellette Stephan Ouellette and Michael Ouellette. Alice was employed for many years at Aetna Insurance and for the past 28 years, as the Office Manager at Stanley Street Treatment and Res, Inc. (SSTAR). Alice graduated from BMC Durfee High School with the class of 1964.

Before entering the traditional workforce, Alice was already well known for her work ethic. As the funniest and greatest storyteller, Alice entertained with tales of growing up in what was then Harbor Terrace. By the age of 10 Alice had her regular aged “customers” for whom she would shop when they were unable to leave their homes.

Alice was able to spend her tips on her siblings for penny candy. As she became a teen, Alice expanded her entrepreneurship to the downtown area, picking up lunches for business people – usually at Harry’s Delicatessen and other nearby restaurants. Alice shared every bit of her life with others.

Family members remember her extraordinary strength, love, attention and generosity as Alice later became a daily presence in their lives. She enjoyed outfitting her brothers and sisters with Easter finery, school clothes, birthday and Christmas presents. Their bonus for good behavior was their much anticipated bus trips to Lincoln Park Amusement.

In later years, it was a trip to Disney World. Alice accomplished much of this while attending school and working first at Young’s Chinese Restaurant and later, for many years, at China Royal. The decades of stories and numerous acts of anonymous support for others are endless and comforting to her family, her “other” family at SSTAR and to the friends of “Auntie Alice”.

She took on everyone she met as a child, sister or brother under her care. These recollections will forever evoke a reminder of the uniqueness and a sense of our privilege of having known her. In her last days, Alice took us all on her short final journey with her.

She helped take the mystery out of passing. She welcomed scores of people to her home, actually called it her party, and beamed when yet another person visited her home for what would become their final visit. Alice helped us all once again, consistently saying that she had done everything she wanted to do, said everything she wanted to say, and ate everything she wanted to eat.

She lived her life truly and sincerely, and left her life without regret. In the end, Alice was asked which song she felt reflected her life, she responded with the Louis Armstrong version of “What a Wonderful World”. We believed that Alice was smiling with us all as we played her song on March 6th.
