Alice Virginia (Umbaugh) Deardorff, 91, of Union Mills, passed away peacefully at 9:25 a.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Miller’s Health and Rehab, La Porte. She was born February 22, 1927, in Milford, Indiana, to John and Mary (Smith) Umbaugh. Alice lived in Milford for several years, moving to Chicago, then moving back to Kimmell, where she graduated from Cromwell High School in 1945.

Deardorff, who survives. Merrill and Alice lived in Fort Wayne for two years before purchasing a home in Wanatah, in the Haskell Road Area.

They lived there for 38 years raising their four children. Merrill and Alice retired in 1987 and enjoyed traveling, camping and square dancing until settling in Pharr, Texas, at the Seniors Mobile Home Park. They moved back to Indiana in 2015 to be closer to family.

Also surviving are four children, Craig (Joyce) Deardorff, Cathy Cox, Bruce (Anne) Deardorff and Alan Deardorff; nine grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; brother; sister; brother-in-law; and son-in-law. Cremation will take place.

A private graveside service will be held at Union Mills Cemetery. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd. , La Porte, (219) 362-3100 is caring for the arrangements.
