Obituary for Allen “Pete” Peterson Allen K. Peterson, age 85, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Evergreen Terrace, under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. Allen, more commonly known at “Pete” was born December 4, 1932 to the late Elphon and Maude (Mangold) Peterson in Kane, PA. He attended Mt.

Jewett High School and went on to enlist in the US Air Force. Pete took basic training at both Lackland AFB and Sheppard AFB, Texas. After basic training he was assigned to Lockburne AFB in Ohio and Wold-Chamberlain Field in Minnesota before going to the 676th where he spent several years at the Antigo radar base.

During this time, he met Helen Haase and the two were united in marriage in 1953. Following marriage, the couple resided in Antigo and had four sons. Helen preceded him in death on April 24, 2004.

After serving four years in the Air Force, he signed with the Milwaukee Braves as a first baseman. He played with the farm system for four years. After playing with the farm system, he worked at Miller Tire Company in Antigo, starting out as a bookkeeper and eventually becoming the general manager of the tire company’s four stores.

He moved on to manager at Antigo Truck and Equipment and for the majority of his working career, until retirement, was the secretary-treasurer for Kretz Lumber Company. Throughout Pete’s life, he was an avid sportsman and athlete, playing not only baseball but basketball. He also enjoyed coaching sports teams.

In his later years, Pete perfected his game of golf. Pete was a member of the Antigo Elk’s Club and was a member of the Bass Lake Country Club, where he also served on their board. Survivors include four sons, Terry (Denise) Peterson of Green Bay, Tom (Lou Ann Campbell) Peterson of Grafton, Steve (Cathy) Peterson of Sheboygan and Mike (Julie) Peterson of Polar.

Additionally, 9 grandchildren, Kristin (Chris) McDermott, Kelsey Peterson, Emma (Brian) Mannen, Aaron Peterson, Jacob Peterson, Mitchell Fawcett, Lisa Smet, Tiffany Hendrickson and Darrick Gilbert. One step-sister, Sally Myers and two step-brothers Roland and Bernard. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, wife and favorite uncle Bob.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Father Charles Hoffmann will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery at a later date.
