Obituary for Alma Turner (Heard) Alma E. Heard Turner, age 95, of Elmwood Gardens, Erie, PA, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at UPMC Hamot Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on April 1, 1922 in Waterford, PA, the daughter of the late Ernest L. and Helen H. Hamilton Heard. She grew up in Waterford and graduated from the Waterford Academy.

After her marriage to George Turner, she worked at the White Swan Farm until moving to Greene Twp. She owned and operated a restaurant at Weed’s Corners while helping her husband operate a third-generation dairy farm on Turner Rd. She also drove school bus for the Wattsburg Area District for 28 years until her retirement in 1984.

She was a member of the Lake Pleasant United Methodist Church where she served as a treasurer and organist. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was always ready for an outing. She loved to travel by car, bus, camper or even motorcycle when the weather was good.

She also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, bowling, square dancing, doing ceramics, collecting stamps and porcelain dolls. Many family gatherings were hosted in her home and “Grandma’s House” was the place to go for fun and special treats, especially her homemade fudge. She also enjoyed attending the Senior Center downtown for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Turner in 1986; two brothers, William and Merle Heard of Waterford, PA and a dear granddaughter, DeeDee Dick Bules, of Erie, PA. Survivors include her two sons, DuWayne E. Turner (Mert) and George E. Turner (Nancy) and a daughter, Darlene Dick (Don), all of Union City, PA. She is also survived by a sister, UnaMae Van Dyke of Waterford, PA; four granddaughters, Debbie, Dorian, Heidi, and Tonia; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service there at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Terry Brown of the Lake Pleasant United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be private at the Phillipsville-Union Cemetery on Turner Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lake Pleasant United Methodist Church, 11700 Lake Pleasant Rd. P.O. Box 225, Union City, PA, 16438.
