The hour glass with its sand of time has slowly but surely spilled its content, and with the passing of the last grain of the sand, went on Monday, January 14, 2019 the life of Almena Leaf Richardson, 96, wife of the late Albertus Richardson. entered eternal rest. Born on July 1, 1922 in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late William Harrison and Lou Ida Singleton Leaf.

Mrs. Almena was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was employed as a housekeeper for many years until retirement. At an early age she accepted Christ and united with St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she was a faithful and dedicated member until her health failed and she moved to Washington, DC with her daughter. She served on Williams-Carsons, Missionary Society, Senior Choir and she was a member of the stewardess board while attending St. Paul.

Mrs. Almena was a very thoughtful, pleasant and easy-going person who always enjoyed being in the company of her family and friends. She enjoyed watching television, cooking, and reading the Bible. She was preceded in death by one son; Marion M. Leaf; one grandson; Derrick Bell; six sisters; Julia Pringle, Hattie James, Willie M. Harvey, Blanche Denson, Minnie Barfield and Denia McFadden; five brothers; Frazier, Ivory, Calhoun, George and Fletcher Leaf Sr. Survivors include one daughter; Bertha M. Bell of Washington, DC; five grandchildren; William Leaf, Linda Brown, Sawney Bell, Jr. Anthony Bell, and Shirley Leaf; thirteen great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren, one son-in-law Sawney Leaf, Sr. all of Washington, DC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends.
