Obituary for Alojz Varsek Strauss Andover, Ohio – Alojz Varsek Strauss, age 66, died on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at his home. Family and friends also knew Al as Louie. He was born on April 23, 1951 in the former country of Yugoslavia (Slovenia), to Marica (Rudez) and Viktor Varsek.

Arriving in the United States as a young boy, Al was adopted by his Aunt and Uncle Helen (Rudez) and Frank Strauss. He graduated from Collinwood High School in 1970. On December 30, 1977 he married Gladys Ann (Henderson) Vyner.

He retired from Dominion-East Ohio Gas Company with over thirty years of service. Al was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt, fish, and take care of his farm. He was a very generous man who was always there to lend a hand to whomever needed it.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, his adoptive parents, and his brother, Victor Varsek. Survivors include his wife of forty years, Gladys A. Strauss of Andover, Ohio; a daughter, Robin L. (Glen) Holden of Pierpont; a son, Scott A. (Angie) Vyner of Andover, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jacob (Angela) Vyner, Andrew Holden, and Olivia Holden. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 State Route 7, Pierpont, Ohio, with Pastor Larry Carr officiating.
