Alvin G Boltz, March 06, 1925 — February 14, 2019

Alvin George Boltz of Cabot passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on February 14, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at Concordia Lutheran Ministries. He was just 20 days short of his 94th birthday. Born to George and Clara (Greim) Boltz on March 6, 1925, Alvin grew up on the family farm in Sarver.

The family attended St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Sarver until it closed its doors, then he joined St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saxonburg where he met his future wife, Marian E. Schmidt. In more recent years, they attended and became associate members of First English Lutheran Church in Butler. In 1946, Alvin joined the Army.

Prior to leaving for service, he became engaged to Marian on Valentines Day, 73 years to the day of his passing. While in the Army, Alvin was assigned to an infantry division working as an aircraft mechanic, and he served 12 months in Japan as part of the Army of Occupation. While in Japan, he purchased the silk that his sister, Mildred, used to make Marian’s wedding gown.

He was honorably discharged in February 1948 with a corporal T5 rating. After Alvin returned to the states, he and Marian were married on June 16, 1948. Alvin worked for PPG for a time, then for the County Extension Bureau breeding cows.

In 1960 he was hired as a Precision Tool Grinder at Oberg Industries in Freeport, retiring after 30 years. Alvin was a 50-year member of the F. & A.M. Armstrong Lodge, and the Shrine Caravan #14. Through the 70 years of their marriage, Alvin and Marian enjoyed western style square dancing, gardening, and spending time with their family.

They spent the past 10 years living in an apartment at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, where they took pleasure in all the activities and friendships. Alvin is survived by his loving wife, Marian, their son Marlin and his wife Karen of Cabot, and their daughters Sue Peck and her husband Jim of West Chester, PA, and Beth Kuric and her husband Kevin of Erie, PA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Alvin’s gentle wit and calm demeanor will be missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Fox Funeral Home, Inc. Saxonburg, PA, Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 19, 2019 at 10:30 at the funeral home with Pastor Kimberly Van Driel officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Dorseyville.
