Alvin’s Obituary Alvin Vernon Steik of Ninilchik, Alaska passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019 in Palmer, Alaska at age 80. Alvin was born July 27, 1938 to Julia and Chris Steik. He is survived by his daughters Anna Grant (Darrel), Suzette Marey and Noelle Hatten (Mike); brothers, Johnny and Gene; sisters, Doris and Shirley (Glen); grandsons, Daniel Reynolds (Diane), Dustin Reynolds, Aladean Marey, Cyle Williams, Dalton Hatten and Darek Hatten; granddaughters Adrienne Gardner (Neil), Amirah Nichols (Kiel) and Lyla DeTavernier (Joshua); 14 great grandchildren; along with many other loving family members.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents Chris and Julia Steik; his brothers, Chris, Harry, Carl, Leo, Stanley and Mike; sisters Gladys, Marian, Margaret and Christine; wife Peggy Steik; and grandson Alvin. Alvin loved to collect bolo ties, stamps and coins. He liked to travel, hunt, find gold and share photos of his grandchildren.

Whether he was catching fish or combing the gifts of the tides, he was at peace by the waves. He could dig a clam and fillet a fish faster than the blink an eye. Above all, he found the most joy spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alvin was a proud U.S. Veteran and Alaska Native. He fought for the rights of Alaska Natives and sat on the board for Ninilchik Traditional Council and Ninilchik Native Association Inc He was known for his kindness, infectious smile and knee-slapping laugh.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 16 at 11 a.m. at the Ninilchik Russian Orthodox Church located at 66448 Church St., Ninilchik, AK 99639. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m. at the Ninilchik Community Center located at 15763 Kingsley Rd. Ninilchik, AK 99639.
