Alvina J. (Englebert) Matzke, 94, formerly of Forestville, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. She was born in Brussels, WI, on September 30, 1923, to John and Elizabeth (Destree) Englebert, the fifth of eight children. On April 28, 1951, Alvina married Ruben E. Matzke at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Kolberg, WI.

Together they lived their strong Christian faith, raised their five children, and farmed their acreage in Forestville. Through sickness and health, their love and commitment was a constant. Alvina is survived by her five children: Elizabeth (Kenneth) Birnschein of Valmy; Millie (the late Philip) Sunstrom of New Brunsfels, TX; Mark (Darci) of Manitowoc; Priscilla (Keith) Kopczynski of Bristol, and Rachel (Greg) Ryan of Sheboygan; 13 grandchildren: Sara (Terry) Daubner, Bryan (Ann) Birnschein; Steve (Terri) Sunstrom, James (Lexi) Sunstrom; Matthew, Jeremy, and Kristin Matzke; Karl Kopczynski, Brittany (Jonah) Gauger, Ben, Lukas, David, and Seth Kopczynski; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Eunice Gauger and sisters-in-law Laura Matzke and Mary Matzke, and also many well-loved nieces and nephews and their families Alvina was preceded in death by her husband Ruben, who entered heaven in 2007; son-in-law Philip Sunstrom; her parents; brother George; sisters Dorothy, Ruth, Irene, Delores, and Bertine; brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Alvina’s large family was a joy and blessing to her, and she appreciated their phone calls and visits all her life. Alvina’s quick wit made conversation and card games a pleasure. Family and friends are welcome to her visitation on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Forbes Funeral Home, Sturgeon Bay, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

Visitation will continue on Saturday, July 21, from 10:00 am until the funeral at 11:00 am at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Kolberg, Wisconsin. Christian burial will follow at the Emanuel cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to mom’s favorite charity: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
