Regina M. Knaapen, 99, of Sturgeon Bay passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Pine Crest Village. She was born September 29, 1918 in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Marsichek) Knapmiller. Regina graduated from Kewaunee High School in June of 1936.

She worked for Wisconsin Bell as Kewaunee Chief Operator lending her skills to Sturgeon Bay to train new operators. On June 5, 1944 she married James H. Knaapen at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1989.

Regina was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters. She volunteered with the Hospital Auxiliary, was a strong supporter of Right to Life, and was an avid bridge player. Regina dedicated her life to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Rosary.

She frequently led the Rosary at church, for funerals, in nursing homes and in her home. She shared her love of the Rosary with her family and many others. Regina will be greatly missed by her six children, Ann (Jeff) Krumrich of Wales, Wisconsin, Mary Jo (Jerry) Swenson of Sarasota, Florida, Cathy Grassl of DePere, Chriss (Dan) Daubner of Forestville, Jim (Jane) of Sturgeon Bay, Paul (Peg) of Muskego, Wisconsin; son-in-law, Bob Steeno of Kaukauna; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Anna Knapmiller; husband, James Knaapen; daughter, Theresa Steeno; son-in-law, Dan Grassl; three sisters, Marie Vinsko, Gertrude Ronzani, and Noreen McKee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Robert Stegmann officiating.

Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Memorials may be made in her memory to Unity Hospice, 2366 Oak Ridge Circle, De Pere, Wisconsin 54115.
