OBITUARY Anne Guess Sims September 6, 1931 – September 2, 2018 On Sunday, September 2, 2018, Anne Guess Sims joyfully received the healing for which she so patiently waited and her faith became sight in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Anne, age 86 was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Pearl and William Guess. She graduated from Kirkman Technical High School in 1949 with training in Business Administration and Cosmetology.

After graduation, she received training in in administrative work which became her lifelong career. Anne began working for Dr. Joseph Graves in 1957 and continued to work for him for the next thirty-five years. She later worked for Dr. Douglas Vanderbilt until her retirement.

Anne is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Sims; and siblings Ruth Gallant, Lois Brown, Bill and Arnold Guess. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Steve) McAfee Clark; two grandsons, Christopher and Adam (Jennifer) Clark; two great grandchildren, Karlee and Ross Clark; several nieces and nephew including a special nephew, Terry Robinson. Anne enjoyed the theatre arts and had a passion for music, teaching herself to play piano, violin, and organ which were a great joy to her for many years.

She also took pride in maintaining a lovely, impressive home and yard and living her life by the simple rule “do the right thing”. To those who knew her she was described as the consummate lady. Anne was a longtime member of Tiftonia Baptist Church and over the past three years, has demonstrated great faith, steadfastness, and confidence in her Savior as she battled ovarian cancer.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 6, from 11-2 at Chattanooga Funereal Home, North Chapel. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 Thursday in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A graveside celebration of Anne’s life will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Her family would like to thank her many precious caregivers, which included Dr. DePasquale and Victoria Brumlow, FNP; member of the staff at Erlanger Cancer Treatment Center, and Morgan Rice, and Lynsey Dean of Hospice of Chattanooga who not only cared for Anne, but provided exceptional guidance and emotional support to her daughter, Cindy during the last months of Anne’s life.
