Obituary of Annette Metzler Annette “Alfreda” (Kapaloski) Metzler went to the peace of heaven on January 4, 2019. Born on July 25, 1925 in Niagara Falls, New York, she enjoyed the community and the majesty of Niagara Falls, especially Goat Island, her entire life. She married Charles H. Metzler, who predeceased her in 1995, on September 6, 1948.

Together they enjoyed dancing, music, friends, and family. She is survived by her children Christina Anne of Washington, DC, Karen Terese of Niagara Falls, NY, Karla Marie of San Francisco, CA and Edward Charles “Skip” (Cathy Catanese) of Niagara Falls. She is also survived by her grandson, Cameron Charles Knutson of San Francisco, CA, her brother Gene Kapaloski (late Dan Renberg) of Los Angeles, CA, her sister Alice Putnam of Niagara Falls, NY and several extended family members.

She was the daughter of Peter and Stephania “Stella” (Rymunt) Kapaloski and the sister of Edward J. Kapaloski (late Laverle Hanson), who was lost over the Adriatic Sea during World II to her everlasting sadness. Annette was a faithful and loving wife and mother, an exceptional cook, and known for her generous hospitality. All were welcome who walked through the door of her home.

Parties in her home were famous for laughter and good memories. She had a wonderful sense of style, a clever wit, and an eye for quality. She treasured her Polish heritage.

Recently she commented on the importance of the rise in women of many colors and backgrounds in politics, especially in the U.S. Congress. She was ahead of her time in believing in the power and ability of all, especially of women. She cared for others, even tending to other patients at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home where she resided for nearly two years.

Several faithful aides, many from Christian Home Companions, assisted her, enriched her later life and brought her joy. She was a graduate of St. Stanislaus Kostka School, Gaskill Junior High School and Niagara Falls High School (NFHS). She recently enjoyed receiving cards sent to patients at Our Lady of Peace from the students at NFHS.

She worked as a young woman during World War II at the Carborundum Company in their offices on Buffalo Avenue and as a volunteer hospital aide. She later worked for the Niagara Falls City School District and Niagara University from which she retired at age 81. She was a great believer in the power of prayer.

She was active in St. Teresa’s Parish (now St. Raphael’s), in the Mother’s Club and in the Catholic Daughters of America (CDA). She had a flair for fashion which she used in several shows and benefits including as a runway model. Her quick intelligent humor and valued common sense advice will be greatly missed.
