Obituary for Archer Harold Garland Archer Harold Garland, 84, of Quinton VA, passed away Thursday December 13, 2018 at the Masonic Home of Virginia, Richmond VA where he resided for the past two years. Harold was born July 5, 1934 to the late Archer and Annie Sue Clark Garland of Red Oak, VA. Harold was employed by the Seaboard Coastline Railroad and retired from Overnite Transportation.

After retirement Harold worked part time for the Delaware Corporation and Colonial Downs race track. Deciding to fully retire, he honed his carpentry skills and enjoyed building storage sheds which can be seen throughout New Kent County and beyond. Four years after the death of his wife, he made the decision in August 2016 to move to the Masonic Home of Virginia where he made many new friends and enjoyed the activities the Home offered, particularly playing Bingo and was a frequent winner.

He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, Quinton VA, which he attended for over 50 years and was also a member of Mann Page Masonic Lodge 157. In March 2016 Harold received recognition for being a 60 year Masonic veteran. Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Wilbourne Garland, and his brother, Billy Garland, of Chase City, VA.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Brankley of Skipwith, VA; sisters-in-law Linda Ramey (Bob) of Sandston, VA, Janet McPherson of Richmond, VA; Ruth Gandel (Bill) of Prince George, VA, Virginia Ann Garland of Chase City, VA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Monday December 17th at Providence United Methodist Church, 4001 New Kent Highway, Quinton VA 23141 with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 500 Masonic Lane, Richmond, VA 23223. Arrangements are being handled by Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge chapel.
