Ardeth’s Obituary Ardeth Jons Bachmann of Bonesteel, South Dakota was born in January 27 1929 and joined her loved ones in heaven on January 29, 2019. She passed away at her home after a brief battle with cancer. She was the third of six children born to Emil and Lydia (Schroeder) Jons.
Ardeth graduates from Bonesteel High School in 1947 and attended Southern State college and taught school for 2 years. Ardeth married her high school sweetheart, Don Bachmann, in 1948. Four daughters were born to this union.
Ardeth lived most of her life in Bonesteel and claimed to be raised on “Country Sunshine”. Ardeth sprinkled most of her conversations with references to a song or poetry. She had a deep love for singing and playing piano, and shared her talent with all in the community throughout her life.
Ardeth also had a talent for writing poetry and wrote many poems on life and times in Bonesteel, birthday poems to her children and grandchildren as well as her annual Christmas poem. She was honored with an award for outstanding achievement in poetry with a poem entitled “A Journey into New Golden Horizons”. She was a member of Calgary Bible Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and especially enjoyed teaching children songs praising Jesus.
In 1957 she and Don moved to Washington state and along with raising her daughters, she was employed at Peoples Department Store in Tacoma. In 1962 They were called back to Bonesteel to join Don’s dad on the Bachmann family farm. While managing a busy farm household where she was known for her delicious daily noon meals, homemade bread and pies feeding family, neighbors, friends and farmhands she also worked as a waitress at several area restaurants.
Ardeth lived to serve and enjoyed treating people to a great meal with a smile and laughter that endeared her to many. Ardeth was co-chair for Gregory County March of Dimes and assisted in the founding of the Gregory County Handicapped Society, now know as the Hope Society. She was very active in her community and school and was on the board of the Alumni association for 70 years.
She took the lead organizing the annual all school alumni event many of those years. After Don’s death in 2013, Ardeth remained a partner in the Bachmann-Manthey farm and ranch, a South Dakota Century Farm (2004). She was proud to say she was still in the cattle business up until her death.
Grateful to have shared in her life are daughters Crystal (Kevin) Manthey, Bonesteel, Linda (Dan) Bruns Madison SD, Dawn Holley (Chris Clark) Prescott AZ, Grandchildren Amy (Dan) Louwagie Cottonwood MN, Don Bruns, Jesse (Kari) Bruns, Kaylynn (Chad) Bruns-Cooney of Madison SD, Amanda (John)? Heckman Columbus Grove OH. Great grandchildren include Carter, Savanna and Owen Louwagie, John, Kade, and Jace Bruns, Addison and Paisley Cooney, and Donavan and Jaret Heckman.
Brothers Alvin Jons, Loren (Bud and Darlene) Jons, Dennis (Kristi) Jons, sister Alice (Gerald) Hartford, sister-in-law lWanda Dickmeyer, brother-in-law, Jay Heifner and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald Bachmann, infant daughter Jackie Jo, parents Emil and Lydia Jons, mother and father-in-law Gottlieb and Martha Bachmann, sister Arleta Sage, sister-in-law Verna Jons, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Elmer and Dorothy Bachmann, sister-in-law Velma Heifner, son-in-law Ronnie Holley, and dear friend and companion Art Hertz. Ardeth loved her family and friends and lived life with joy and a servant spirit.
We will celebrate the memory of her love of life, laughter and song for many years to come.
