Armando F. Canda of Linden entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 16, 2019. Armando was born in Havana, Cuba on May 4, 1943. His family moved to the US in 1954, became naturalized citizens and settled in Jersey City, NJ.

He graduated from Snyder High School and later attended Montclair State College from where he graduated in 1966 having majored in Spanish and English with teacher certification. Armando’s family moved to Linden shortly after he was hired to teach Spanish at Linden High School from l965 until his retirement in 2007. An active and inspirational teacher, Armando founded Linden High School’s Chapter of the National Spanish Honor Society and was Moderator of the Spanish Club.

He accompanied his students on many educational trips abroad and was Advisor to the Ski Club. His love of theater extended to selling tickets and creating the Booster Program for the school plays. Armando was a 3rd Degree Member of the Linden Knights of Columbus, Past President of the Linden Jaycees, parishioner of St Elizabeth’s Church, and served as Chairman of the Mayor’s Cultural and Heritage Committee of Linden.

Years as President of the Linden Halloween Parade Committee brought him great joy. He infused culture into the community by bringing world class acts to the Linden High School stage. Armando was also Founder of the Spanish American Cultural Society of Linden.

In addition, he worked for many years as a licensed New Jersey Realtor and served as a Notary Public of NJ. Armando was an only child and was preceded in death by his parents Luz M.Canda (Sagols) and Armando M. Canda Sr He is survived by his cousins Marta, Adnais and Janiese DeArmas.

This beloved teacher was surrounded by many friends and former students who were there for him throughout his prolonged illness. Visitation will take place at the Krowicki-Mc Cracken funeral home, 2124 E. St. George’s Ave in Linden on Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Internment will take place at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery, US Highway 1, Woodbridge, NJ.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2019 following a 10 am. funeral mass at St Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 220 E. Blancke St., Linden, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Linden High School National Spanish Honor Society Scholarship Fund or to the Linden High School Spanish Club Scholarship Fund.
