Obituary for Arthur Eugene “Gene” Henderson Arthur Eugene “Gene” Henderson, 85, of Pascagoula, MS passed away on April 6, 2018. Gene was born on March 1, 1933 in Big Spring, TX. His family moved to Pascagoula, MS in 1941 where he retired as a Captain with the Pascagoula Police Department after 25 years of service.

Before his service to his community as a police officer, he served his country for 4 years in the army. Gene was known for his love of woodworking and drinking coffee with friends while completing crosswords at Sylvia’s Annex. He was lovingly admired by his 27 great-grandchildren.

They often affectionately referred to him as their “cool Nike sock and Beats headphone wearing Papa”. Gene had a love for nature and would often spend his days sitting on the porch with his great-grandchildren, watching the chickens and playing games on his iPad. Gene was a long-time member of Church on the Rock in Pascagoula.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Reta Henderson, his daughter, Carol Henderson, and his great-grandson, William Henderson. He is survived by his son Michael (Kim) Henderson of Pascagoula, his daughters Regina (Jack) Tonn of Big Spring, Laurie (Walter) Grady of Lucedale, and Sherrlyn Welch of Big Spring, their mother and his life-long love, Frances Henderson of Lucedale, his sisters Barbara (David) Poole of Lucedale and Patsy (Lynn) Nolan of Spring City, TN. He will be sadly missed by his 16 grandchildren, Nicole, Mallory, Charley, James, Jennifer, Kyle, John David, Kayla, Kassondra, Kisa, Karrie, Neilly, Matthew, Michael, Josh, and Cayce, and 27 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Holder-Wells Funeral Home, 4007 Main Street, Moss Point, MS. The funeral service will be Friday, April 13, 2018 beginning at 11:00 am from the funeral home chapel. Entombment will be in Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula.

Funeral Honors will be provided by the Pascagoula Police Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Johnson and Gene’s grandsons, Brent, Michael, Kyle, John David, Josh, Jared, Matthew and Cayce. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider buying an officer lunch one day to show your appreciation for law enforcement.
