Arthur Kimball Veeder was born on November 29, 1917 in Denver, Colorado. He was the eldest son of Paul Revere Veeder and Lura Bird (Kimball) Veeder. Art graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado on May 1, 1942 and was inducted into the United States Army on May 2, 1942 as a Second Lieutenant.

Art spent his military service during World War II in the Engineer Corps training soldiers to shoot, build pontoon bridges, install barbed wire and land mines. He was discharged in December 1943. Art married Frances D Shafer in Hot Springs, New Mexico on May 1, 1946.

They had no children. They settled in Silver City, New Mexico and Art started his business, the New Mexico Minerals Laboratory preforming ore assays for the various mines in the area. He later took a job with Annaconda Corporation and they moved to Grants, New Mexico.

After a few years in Grants, Art was hired by the city of Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked as City Engineer until he retired. After retirement Art and Fran returned to Silver City where they spent their remaining years. He is survived by one brother, Lloyd of Jerome, Idaho and preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Fran, and brothers Harold and Ross.

He is also survived by nieces Cristie (Veeder) Hope and Marolin (Veeder) Stempson and nephews Larry, Scott, David and Henry Veeder. Art was a long standing member of the United Methodist Church in Silver City and founder of the 180 Club. He was a kind generous man, loved by all who knew him and will be missed.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, July 13, 2018 at Fort Bayard National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. A Memorial Service is also scheduled for Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The First United Methodist Church.
