Wolfeboro, NH Arthur Melvin Glidden Jr., 96, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Mountain View Community, Ossipee, NH. Arthur was born November 28, 1922, the seventh of nine children of Arthur Glidden Sr. and Gertrude Chick Glidden. He was born at the Little Farm on North Line Road, Wolfeboro Center, NH and attended local schools Arthur later worked for more than forty years in retail stores in Wolfeboro.

Following that he worked as a caretaker in Brookfield for many years and also operated a custom picture framing business from his home in Brookfield. He appeared in local plays and musicals many times. He was a member of the Grange for more than sixty years where he was Past Master of Lake Shore Grange, Wolfeboro, NH, Past Master of Effingham Grange and Past Master of Carroll County Pomona Grange as well as the New Hampshire State Grange and National Grange.

Arthur was active on many committees and a member of the First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro, NH. He was also President and Custodian of the Wolfeboro Centre Community Church since 1964, and a member of the Wolfeboro Historical Society. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Pearl Kenney Glidden of Wolfeboro, whom he married in 1948 and together they raised their four children.

Arthur leaves behind his children, Laurel H. Pont and her husband William; Arthur M. Glidden III and his wife Nancy; Judith E. Lee and her husband Robert E. Lee Jr. and Bethany R. Dugas and her husband Michael. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date.
