Obituary for Arthur R. McHaney Arthur R. McHaney, age 90, of Marine City, passed away April 13, 2018 following a brief illness. He was born July 7, 1927 in Marine City, the only child of Roy and Minnie McHaney. On June 10, 1950 Art married Valarie Duetsch in Peters, Michigan.

She preceded him in death in 2016. Art served with the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. Following his service to his country he worked at Chris Craft in Algonac for a short time and trained his father during his employment there.

Following Chris Craft, Art worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 35 years. He spent his entire career delivering mail in Marine City. Art built his own home in Marine City and has lived in it for 64 years.

Art was a longtime active member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church and the St. Martin’s Pilots Men’s Club, Marine City He also enjoyed playing cards with the Senior Euchre Club and was an avid bowler. For over 60 years he also looked forward to his annual deer hunting trip to Northern Michigan. Art is survived by his children, Linda (Skip) Hernandez, Larry (Laura) McHaney and Dale (Kathy) McHaney; grandchildren, Chuck (Lisa) Riffenburg, Tom (Brooke) McHaney, Nicholas Hernandez and Tina (Branon) Armstead; great grandchildren, Tristan, Kate, Jacob and Jeremy; brothers in law and sisters in law, Alvira and Joe Coulthard and Ken and Sharon Duetsch and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

In addition to his parents, Art was predeceased by his grandson, Scott Riffenburg in 1993. Funeral services will be held Thursday April 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visiting hours are Tuesday 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorials to the Marine City Old Newsboys or the wishes of the family.
