OBITUARY August “Dee Dee” “Gus” Chappetta Sr. February 24, 1931 – December 28, 2018 August “Dee Dee” “Gus” Chappetta, Sr., 87, passed away in Metairie, Louisiana on December 28, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Chappetta, Sr. and Winnfred Sutherland Chappetta; brothers, Nicholas, Norman, Melvin (Pete), Louis (Lukie) Chappetta; sister, Shirley C. Smith; brother in-law, John T. Callahan, Jr.; sister in-law, Deloras Callahan. Beloved husband for 63 years to Suzanne Callahan Chappetta; survived by daughter, Suzanne C. Berthiaume (Merlin, Jr.), sons, August “A.J.” Chappetta, Jr. (Diana), Dino (Monica) Chappetta; sisters Patricia Wartt and Kathleen McClure; grandchildren, Chad Berthiaume, Courtney Chappetta, Aimee B Robertson (Jonathan), Blake Chappetta, Brittany C. Springer (Jeffrey), Taylor Chappetta, Kelly Capello; great grandchildren, Jackson Springer, Jayden Chappetta, Kendyll Chappetta, Hunter Richard; devoted sister in-law and brother in-law Rosie and F. J. Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews ; and brother in-law, Gerard Callahan.

Gus was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was a professional truck driver for 30 years with Campbell 66 Express as well as a volunteer with St. Joseph Abbey, Pennies for Bread and the Covington Food Bank. He was a parishioner at St. Clement of Rome in Metairie and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

stjude.org Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. , New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. and a graveside service will follow the mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
