Aurelia May Brown, 91 Aurelia May Brown of Petoskey, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Villa by the Bay. Her family plan to remember and honor her life during a memorial service that is planned for 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church; Pastor Matthew Peters will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery with her mother and father, Kathryn and Charles Brown who preceded her in death.

Aurelia was born on July 3, 1927 in Sturgis, Michigan. As a young child her family moved to northern Michigan ultimately settling in Petoskey. Aurelia attended Petoskey Schools and was a graduate of the Class of 1945.

For a number of years she worked for Western Union until returning to school and eventually earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she took a teaching position with Our Savior Lutheran School. She went on to teach in San Antonio at the Trinity Lutheran School until accepting a teaching position with Trinity Lutheran School in Traverse City.

Aurelia retired from teaching and moved back to Petoskey to live with and care for her mother. Those who knew her best will remember a strong woman with an independent spirit that lived life on her own terms. She is survived by two brothers, Ernest (Jean) Brown of Lambertville, Michigan and Eugene (Dorothy) Brown of Oakley, Michigan as well as several nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Aurelia was preceded in death by an infant sister, Lois and by her sister, Ruth Dalrymple.
