Obituary for Barbara Ann Pizzo Barbara Ann Gladiator Pizzo, 84, passed away on November 10, 2018. She and her husband, Tony had five children whose families grew by leaps and bounds to give them 24 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. All of which she was very proud.

She is survived by her children; Salvatore (Cathy) Pizzo, John (Kathy) Pizzo, Tina (Sean) Conroy, daughter in-law; Julie Pizzo, and also former daughter and son in-laws; Claudia Cartwright and Tim Selman. She leaves behind her siblings; John (Jan) Filo, Judith (Gary) Allen, Andrea Schlett, Margaret (Bill) Wright, Michael (Vicky) Filo, and Stephen (Jane) Filo, and sister in-laws; Teri Filo, Sara Manzo and Mary (Baldo) Billeci. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Anthony Pizzo, Sr. in 2009, two of her sons’ David and Anthony Jr., siblings; Marie Cross and Thomas Filo, and brother in-laws, Frank Schlett and Mel Cross.

Barb raised her family while running the family owned store, Belle River Market, on Indian Trail in China Township. They openly welcomed everyone into their home and family swimming pool where no on left without a Stroh’s ice cream treat. She was the China Township assessor for many years, a catechist at Holy Cross for 10 years and she proudly held the position of Director of Religious Education at Holy Cross School.

She worked in the church rectory as a secretary until her retirement. She was a member of the Altar Society, and along with her husband organized many golf outings, called Bingo at the K of C on Tuesdays and headed up the church’s Maritime Days events. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Marine City.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Wednesday at church one hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to family wishes.
