Obituary for William “Bill” D. Malcolm William “Bill” Dean Malcolm, age 88, of St. Clair, passed away November 11, 2018 after a brief illness. Bill was born February 12, 1930 in Big Rapids, the third of eleven children born to the late Wolford and Goldie (Frantz) Malcolm. Bill was married to the late Lorna Shagnea for 66 years.
She died December 29, 2007. Bill is survived by his sons; Mark (Maria) Malcolm and Lorne Malcolm, and daughter in-law; Kay Malcolm. He is also survived by his brothers; Reginald “Jr” (Joyce) Malcolm, Roger (MaryJo) Malcolm, Alan (Carol) Malcolm; his sisters, Virginia Muxlow and Dianne Sanders.
Bill leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Dean W. (Michelle) Malcolm, Ronda (Ryan) Meere, Mark Malcolm, Tanner Malcolm, Elliott Malcolm, and Anthony Malcolm. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren; Porter, Keagan, and Payton Malcolm and Olivia and Sophia Meere, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He also leaves behind a special friend Percy Dell Werner.
Bill was preceded in death by two sons; Dean Malcolm and Leslie Malcolm, his brothers; Donnie, Keith and Richard and sisters; Marilyn Brusate and Sharon Erdman. Bill was a warm hearted man who loved being surrounded by his family. He was one of the youngest sailors to set sail on the Great Lakes at the age of 16.
Later he obtained his tug boat captains license sailing with numerous companies on the Great Lakes. Bill was an Army veteran as he served two years in Germany. He was also a member of the Operating Engineers Local 324.
His jolly smile will be remembered forever, along with many conversations accompanied by coffee and desserts. “The time has come for you to set sail, spread your wings, sail towards the stars look down upon your loved ones as we look for you afar”. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16 at Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
