OBITUARY Barbara Ann Taylor September 8, 1927 – January 25, 2019 Barbara Ann Smith (Gallo) Taylor age 91 of Marblehead, MA passed away peacefully on January 25, 2019 at the Lafayette Nursing Home in Marblehead where she had been a resident for several months. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Foss) Smith of Marblehead. She was predeceased by her first husband Michael Gallo in 1956.

She is survived by her husband, William P. Taylor; Her loving daughter Margery Ann (Gallo) Armstrong and her husband Paul of Rowley, MA; her loving sister, Margery Foss Smith Hildebrand and her husband George of Boxford, MA. She leaves four nieces and nephews and their families as well as many cousins, who will miss her very much. Barbara was born at the original Mary Alley Hospital on September 8, 1927 and was very proud to be a Marbleheader, a place her family has called home for eleven generations.

She graduated from Marblehead High School in 1945 and began work for the town of Marblehead. She was a bookkeeper in the Town Treasurers Office for many years. Prior to working for the town she co-owned Bar-Do Hand Smocked Dresses with her good friend Doris Stacey.

Barbara loved her town of Marblehead. She especially enjoyed her time spent at her camp on Tinker’s Island where she was surrounded by the salt air. She loved the smell of the ocean and watching the sea.

Life with Barbara was never dull – she had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh, she was a very special wife, mother and friend. Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff at the Lafayette Nursing Home for their compassion, dedication and wonderful care during her stay. As much as she said she would never leave her home she realized it was necessary and knew she was surrounded by love and made to feel part of the Lafayette Home.

She especially loved the musical entertainment and she was “queen of the volleyball team”. “Whip and Down Bucket” Mom – you will be missed; you were a special person. A memorial visitation will be held in Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm St. from 10:30 to 11am followed by a Funeral Service at 11am.

Burial will conclude in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lafayette Activities Fund, c/o Missy Murray, 25 Lafayette St. Marblehead, MA 01945 or to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 12502 U.S.F Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612-9411.
