Barbara Ann (Griffith) Weems 25 Feb 1941 – 23 May 2019 Barbara Ann Weems, born February 25, 1941, age 78, passed from this life on May 23, 2019, at her home in Atlanta TX. Barbara is preceded in death by parents Andrew Woolsey and Gertrude (Neuhart) Griffith; brother Albert “Bill” Griffith; sister-in-law Shirley Griffith; and three brothers-in-law Robert Willis of Aurora, NE, Don Marquette of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kenneth Wells of Denver, CO. She left behind her loving husband J. Marvin Weems of Atlanta, TX; son Douglas Mark Weems and wife Kerry of Kansas City, MO; daughters Dr Pamela Weems of Stapleton, CO, Dr. Lisa Diane Weems of Oxford, OH, and Amy Jo Weems of Seattle, WA; brother Eugene “Mert” Griffith and wife Gwen of Marquette, NE; sisters Genene Willis of Aurora, NE, and Linda Marquardt of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Dr. Marilyn Wells of Denver, CO; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Barbara was the retired Foundation Director of the Atlanta Memorial Hospital Foundation. She was the most gentle and gracious soul and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known her. She was a member of the book club, the garden club, and Amity club.
She participated in events to enlighten the mind and improve surroundings for others including the Women’s Association and Clerked Session of North Wood Presbyterian Church. Barbara’s purpose in life was to bring joy to others through sincere and selfless service and she excelled at it. She appreciated the arts and championed artists aspiring to improve their talents and share them with others.
She enhanced the lives of many without expecting accolades for her good works. Barbara’s reputation was only surpassed by her actions of kindness and her willingness to make the world a better place. She was accepting and a dear friend to many.
The absence of her service, gracious kindness and encouraging influence will be felt by the community at large. Barbara Ann Weems’ will be cremated under the direction of Queen City Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled at Northwood Presbyterian Church at 5800 Richmond Road, Texarkana, TX 75503 at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 29, 2019, with Dr. Cheryl Bourn officiating and special music by Ray Whitt and Rex Pope.
