Barbara’s Obituary Kittery – Barbara Gray Hannaford, 91, of Kittery, Maine, died Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Avita of Wells, Maine, following a period of failing health. Born on July 5, 1927, at the old Cottage Hospital in Portsmouth, NH, she was the daughter of Leslie (Opie) Gray and Blanche (Caldon) Gray. Barbara married Eugene Harry Hannaford (son of Harry Arthur Hannaford and Fannie B Hannaford) of Oxford, Maine in 1947.

She is survived by her daughter, Gwyneth Hannaford, of Kittery, Maine; daughter, Gail, and her husband, Walter Jakan, of York, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Harry Hannaford; and her sister, Frances (Gray) Lemont. Barbara was previously employed by the predecessor to Kimball’s Department Store in downtown Portsmouth Upon marriage to Eugene they eventually settled in Kittery, Maine, where Eugene was employed at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

There they built their own home and raised their family. Barbara enjoyed being a homemaker and also spent her time volunteering at Edgewood Manor in Portsmouth and wherever she could be of assistance. In later years Barbara enjoyed traveling with friends.

She was a communicant of Acton Congregational Church in Acton, Maine, where she made many fine friends at the Church and Circle of Hope and surrounding community. Services: A time of visitation will take place Thursday, February 21st from 3p-4p, at the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. A service will start at 4p, following the visitation.
