Barbara Gryzelda Lakota, August 22, 1924 — May 27, 2019

Barbara’s Obituary BARBARA GRYZELDA (Hollauer) LAKOTA, 94, of Wallingford, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Bronislaw K. “Bruno” Lakota. Born in Odessa, Russia, on August 22, 1924, the only child of mother Kathryn Keller and father George Hollauer.

During those rough and uncertain times of the Russian Revolution the family was able to escape to Poland in 1929. Gryzelda’s mother died of an illness in Poland. A few years later her father met and married her grammar school teacher.

Separated by WWII, Barbara was unable to come to the U.S. until many years later. Barbara stayed in Poland, married and had two children. In 1961 she and her husband Bronislaw Lakota and family were finally able to join her father and family in Wallingford.

Barbara learned English and for 24 years worked as a CNA at Masonicare Health Center. She was a most caring and loving wife and mother. Barbara was a life-long parishioner of SS.

Peter & Paul R.C. Church. She is survived by her son Henry Lakota and wife Dorothy of South Windsor; her daughter Mary Jadwiga Lakota of Wallingford; her brother, Henry Hollauer and wife Henritta of Norwalk; and sister Elizabeth Hollauer of Wallingford. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Nadia and husband Alberto Gonzalez, Joseph Alghadyan, Jennifer and husband Emre Noteroglu and Kristina Lakota.

She was a great-grandmother to Alexander Gonzalez, Cynthia and Lydia Noteroglu. The Lakota family would like to thank Dr. K Jakubowski of Meriden, CT for his dedicated care of Barbara. Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext.

, Friday, May 31, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave.
