Barbara Jane Roberts passed away April 25th peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Mark C. Roberts Jr., children Gail and Michael Mower, Mark and Lisa Roberts, Dana and Gary Vance, grandchildren Carl Wolff, Jennifer Barnett, Destry Eskew, Shawn Roberts, Merry Goldsmith, Aaron Vance and Carmen Vance and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister Jackie Mariott and parents Babette and Alexander Floyd Richie.

Barbara was born in San Francisco, February 4, 1932. She joined her family March 29, 1932 when she was brought home to Susanville by her parents Babette and Floyd Richie. She attended high school at Lassen Junior High School and went on to take courses at Lassen Community College, where she met the love of her life, Mark.

Mark played football for Lassen Community College and suffered a broken leg. As he tells it, that’s how Barbara caught him, while he was recovering in the hospital. She would visit him frequently.

Barbara and Mark were married in Reno, Nevada on March 16, 1951. They made a home in Susanville, where their three children were born. They moved their family to Caldwell, Idaho in spring of 1964.

Barbara worked in the accounting department at the JR Simplot Company for 37 years. She retired early to be able to join Mark in traveling the country. Mark and Barbara were avid outdoor enthusiasts.

During their years of travel they enjoyed fishing and camping together. Barbara would read books while Mark would fish. They were both very fond of their travels to Alaska and the Oregon Coast.

She and Mark wintered in Yuma, Arizona for many years where they met and made lifelong friends. Barbara and Mark also very much enjoyed participating in events of their local Elks Lodge. During her retirement Barbara also found much joy in researching her family’s genealogy, learning to use a computer, telling stories and sharing her memories.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday May 5th from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Elks Lodge in Caldwell, ID.
