Barbara Otten April 09, 1936 – February 02, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Barbara Otten, 82, died Saturday, February 2, 2019 at her Tea, SD, home from natural causes. Barbara Jean Hodges was born on April 9, 1936, in Sioux falls, SD, the daughter of Shirley and Margaret (Caswell) Hodges. She grew up in Harrisburg, SD, attending school and graduated from Harrisburg High School.

On November 23, 1953 she was united in marriage to Ernest Otten at Luverne, MN. The couple made their home in Tea. Barbara had worked in the House keeping Department of Avera McKennan Hospital for over 22 years.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Barbara was an active and faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and belonged to the 55 and Over Club. She was also a member of the Tea Historical Society.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening and ceramics. Barbara loved the time she spent with her grandchildren. Besides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Marylene, Ethel, Tom, Bud and Roger.

Grateful for having shared her life are husband of over 65 years, Ernest; four children: Ernest (Betty) Otten, Tea, Donald Otten, Tea David Otten, Tea and Penny (Gale) Dannen, Tea; four grandchildren: Ryan (Liz) Dannen, Tea, Brad (Holley) Otten, Rapid City, Brian (Denice) Otten, Sioux Falls and Eric Dannen, Tea; seven great-grandchildren: Morgan Otten, Alex Otten, Eden Otten, Alaina Otten, Dillion Otten, Ava Otten and Everett Dannen as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea, SD with burial in the Tea Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at a later date . Memorials may directed to the Trinity Lutheran Building Fund.
