Obituary for Ms. Barbara Rodgers James Barbara Rodgers James was born to the late Walter and the late Mamie Clyde Dempsey Rodgers on July 9, 1938 in Williamston, NC. On July 5, 2018 heaven gained another angel. Barbara received the call of Almighty God from labor to reward after a brief surgical procedure as her family surrounded her.

Barbara joined Back Swamp Church, Disciples of Christ at an early age. Barbara attended Martin County Schools. She retired from Eagle Snacks as a food inspector.

Barbara also worked at various sewing factories including Jefferson Mills, Coats & Clark, Worker’s Own & June Day. She enjoyed her favorite pastime; sewing and doing alterations which she did for Williamston Cleaners and many local citizens. Barbara married Alton Lorenza James, Sr. aka “Lo” on March 9, 1957 and to this union three children were born, Alton Lorenzo James, Jr., Jarvis Cyril James, and Lagislia Bernadette James.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband “Lo” in March 22, 1997; siblings, Maggie Richards, John “Bud” Walter Rodgers, Clydia Mae Smith, James “Nick” Russell Rodgers, and Doris Duggins. Barbara leaves to cherish the memories of her life to her children, Lagislia, Cyril and Al , all of Williamston, Tobia West of Brooklyn, New York, Annie Bell Baker of Williamston and Delores Spencer of Whiteville, TN; a special God-son, Dallas Evans Wiggins; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
