Obituary for Deacon Octavius Spruill Octavius Spruill, our beloved was born January 10, 1938 to the late Joe Anna Moore Spruill and the late Fred Spruill in Martin County. On Friday, August 31, 2018, God called our beloved Octavius home to glory. Octavius married the late Essie Mae Spruill on October 10, 1959.

They were heavenly blessed with thirty-four years of marriage and to this wonderful, happy and loving union five children were born. Octavius joined the St. Mark Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ Church at an early age. He was a deacon and sang in Saint Mark Male Chorus and the Martin County Male Chorus.

Octavius was Past Master of Masonic Lodge #273 Everetts, North Carolina. Octavius was well known, loved and respected in Martin County. He never met a stranger and always had a smile, as well as kind words for those he met.

Octavius was a loving husband, father and grandfather that will be missed. Octavius leaves to cherish his memories, five children, Norma S. Murphy (Rod) of South Carolina, Leslie Willoughby (Randy) of Greenville, Octavius Darryl Spruill (Fannie) of Greensboro, Myron Spruill (Kinishia), Velva Spruill all of Greenville; grandchildren, April Spruill, August Spruill both of Durham, NC, Kimberli Murphy, Aaron Murphy of South Carolina, Fantavia Spruill Hayes, Darryl Spruill (DJ) of Greensboro, Teonda, Krystal, Lucas and Azaria; five great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Cadence, Javeon, Zaiden, Caleb and Kihana; one sister, Ina Williams of New York; sister-in-law, Shirley Spruill; brothers/sisters in law that he reared as his children, Shelby Perkins, Robert Brown, William Brown, Russell Brown, Danny Brown all of Charlotte, NC, Wanda Little and Priscilla Brown both of Williamston, NC; special friends, James “Buddy” Evans, Mary Saunders and Sara Daniels; a host of brothers/ sisters-in- law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Deacon Octavius Spruill please visit our Sympathy Store.
